Kinetic Solstice | Striped Maple #1

from $50.00

This piece was made using wet cyanotype — a process where an iron formula is painted on while still wet, botanicals are laid directly onto the paper, and turmeric, vinegar, and other ingredients are layered on top before the whole image is wrapped and left to develop for hours. Unlike a traditional cyanotype's timed exposure, the wet process lets pH, time and the environment come together to move on its own, creating a truly unique piece.

Striped maple (Acer pensylvanicum) is sometimes called moosewood or whistlewood — a young, understory tree, often one of the first to leaf out come summer. This piece was made in the kinetic pull leading into the June fire horse solstice, when everything felt like it was moving before I could catch up to it.

This is an archival giclée reproduction on 100% cotton rag Somerset Velvet fine art paper. It's available in 9×12", 11×14", and 16×20" and ships rolled in a protective tube
